Methodology of literary work subtextinterpretation or “to catch a kite”

(uk) Дана стаття висвітлює проблеми художнього осмислення та інтерпретації циклу творів Дж. Д. Селінджера “Nine Stories”. Розглядаються такі важливі питання методології свідомо твореного підтексту, як способи генерування прихованих смислів, типи підтекстів, а також «поліфонічність» імпліцитних планів твору та підтекстові інтертекстуальні зв’язки. Свідомо творений підтекст є особливо зручним для дослідження, оскільки дозволяє простежити механізми генерування, взаємодії та впливу підтекстових художніх засобів і надає читачеві своєрідні «маяки» - смислові вектори, що допомагають проникнути у глибину художнього тексту. Селінджер має цілу низку традиційних художніх засобів, відповідальних за творення прихованих смислів, котрі працюють разом, підсилюючи один одного. Різні за темою та способом творення імпліцитні плани текстів Селінджера часто утворюють потужне «поліфонічне» звучання наділене катарсисною художньою силою. Також аналізується вплив давньосхідної поетики на підтекстовий стиль письма Селінджера, здійснюється трактування інтертекстуальних зв’язків підтекстів оповідань письменника, досліджуються міжтекстові емоційні, психологічні та філософські приховані мотиви, які дозволяють повніше зрозуміти задум автора. Стаття акцентує увагу на системному, комплексному дослідженні всіх аспектів сприйняття та інтерпретації підтексту, лише за умови якого стає можливим наближення рецепції читача до задуму автора, адже тільки так можна зазирнути у «безодню смислу», що здатен генерувати високохудожній літературний твір.

(en) The given article highlights the problems of literary consideration and interpretation of the cycle of works by D.J. Salinger “Nine Stories”. The significant methodological questions of the consciously created subtext, such as ways of hidden sense generation, subtext types as well as implicit text “polyphony” and subtext intertextual connections, are being considered. The subtext created consciously is exceptionally susceptible of investigation as it gives the possibility to follow the mechanism of creation, interaction and impact of subtext literary stylistic devices and provides a reader with the so called “beacon lights” – sense vectors which help to penetrate into the literary textual depth. Salinger possesses the whole bunch of traditional stylistic devices responsible for hidden sense generation, working together and intensifying each other. Thus the most important devices are: composition built on the idea of contrast, iceberg principle (dialogues which only hint at the actual meaning of words), association networks (a set of interconnected devices serving to suggest one and the same implicit mood), symbols and allegories, which are frequently polysemous lexemes with symbolic meaning or pun inside. The most crucial for the subtext generation is the principle of final riddle, which is capable of directing the recipient’s mind back into the literary text depth in search of hidden meanings. Varied in their topic and way of creation, implicit meanings of Salinger’s texts not seldom create a powerful “polyphonous” sound having catharsis artistic force. Also the influence of ancient Indian poetics on the subtextual style of Salinger’s writings is being analysed. The interpretation of intertextual links of subtexts of the writer’s works is being carried out, intertextual emotional, psychological and philosophical hidden motives which give the better understanding of the author’s message are being investigated, the influence of the ancient Indian poetics on the subtextual Salinger’s style is being analysed. The article concentrates on the systemic comlex investigation of all the aspects of subtext reception and interpretation, on which condition only the reader’s receptive approximation to the author’s message is possible; by these means exclusively one can look into the “depth of sense”, which can be generated only by the highly artistic literary text.
